It appears Seattle Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner is headed for a one-year ban from the NFL. Just what that ban is for, however, is still very much unknown.
NFL.com originally reported the suspension on Monday morning, saying it was for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Browner was suspended the final four games of last season for a violation of the PED policy.
As word of the report began to spread Monday, Browner fired back.
FOX NFL Insider Mike Garafolo did a little digging and the details became clearer — a little.
Garafolo confirmed Browner is facing a one-year suspension.
But Browner's people said the suspension is not related to PEDs.
Later in the day, NFL.com reporter Michael Silver said that indeed the suspension is related to a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy, not the PED policy.
ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the suspension is related to a violation of the substance-abuse policy, and said Browner has appealed.
So at this point, what exactly is known?
The Seahawks are already in trouble, as cornerback Walter Thurmond III was reportedly just suspended four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. And Browner was already nursing a groin injury. So the top team in the NFC is suddenly thin in the secondary.
